| Description: | Low-growing perennial, less than 15 cm tall, sometimes mat-forming. Leaves in a basal tuft, linear-lanceolate. Flowers on long, glandular stalks, pale mauve. (from Flora of Zimbabwe website) Flowers: long-stalked; delicate; tepals 6; mauve; with a yellowish inner. Small herbaceous plants with short stem and a rosette of leaves about 5 (rarely to 20) cm long; leaf sheaths soon splitting into wiry fibres; blades V-shaped with shallow median adaxial groove, deciduous, glabrous, midvein and margins only towards the tip serrate. Flowers solitary and tiny, peduncle up to 5 (rarely 10) cm. Tepals 5–15 mm long, white, light violet, pink–mauve or (in Namibia) blue, exterior ones aristate. Stamens six, filaments 1–2 mm long, anthers 4 mm long. Style 1.5 mm long, stigma 2.5 mm long. Ovary 1.5–2.0 mm wide and 1.5 mm long. Peduncles, ovary and back of tepals with glands.
