| Description: | Erect annual herb, up to 250 mm high. Stems much-branched, quadrangular, leafy, with dense glandular hairs. Leaves ovate to lanceolate, almost sessile. Flowers many, in terminal sprays, colour varies from white to orange or blue-violet, with yellow throat. Flowering September and October. The distribution of this species extends from Naukluft in the north to the Orange River, extending into the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. A delicate, shade-loving plant, it is found growing in rock crevices or in the semi-shade beneath shrubs, where it can be fairly common. It has also been collected in dry washes and rivulets. It has been cultivated in the Munich Botanical Gardens in Germany since 1953, from a collection from Witputz. (from Wildflowers of the Southern Namib, by Colleen Mannheimer et. al.) |
